The Alleghany-Forest City mining district is probably the only district in Northern California where gold is still produced. This is the only book currently in print on the topic. This book is lavishly illustrated with color photographs and line drawings.
The author R.W. Wittopp is a professional geologist who has worked in or visited all the significant mines of the district.
Author Wayne Babros has been a resident of Alleghany since 1969. He worked as a miner for several years. An avid historian and director of Underground Gold Miners Museum, he has conducted research for the California Parks and Recreation Department.
